Victorian State Election 2018: Meet Pascoe Vale Independent Francesco Timpano!

(I’ve spent ten minutes trying to figure out whether the second one is a parody or not, and I honestly can’t tell.  It has a lot of the same material, and is very much in the same style.  It’s slightly more grandiose, but really only slightly, and not actually out of character…)

Having said that… it’s a very, um, distinctive style, and I suspect it could be imitated pretty easily.  Having said *that*, who would bother?)

Themes: The Moreland City Council is Corrupt!  The Greens are criminals!  Conspiracy theories abound!

How to Vote Card

Timpano has put Oscar Yildiz in second place, followed by the ALP.  The Liberal candidate is in 4th place, followed by Animal Justice, the Victorian Socialists, John Kavanagh and the Greens.

I recall from the last election that he really *hates* the Greens; it looks like Kavanagh (the current Moreland mayor) is also on his shit-list.

How to Vote Card

Yildiz has preferenced his fellow independents, John Kavanagh and Francesco Timpano, second and third, suggesting a common ground which, as we shall see, is not wholly reciprocated.  He has put Liberal first of all the parties, followed by Labor, the Greens, Animal Justice and the Socialists.

It’s almost a perfect mirror of the Socialist ticket.  Suffice it to say that Mr Yildiz probably does not lean to the left, politically speaking.

The Group Voting Ticket

As an ungrouped independent, Karl Pongracic doesn’t have a group voting ticket of his own.  But it’s sometimes illuminating to see how others see our independents.

In this instance, however, there isn’t much to learn.  He’s scoring worst with the hard left parties, who are all putting him 40th or later out of a possible 46 places on the ticket, with the exception of the Greens, who put him 25th.  He’s faring slightly better with the right wing parties, but he’s usually still somewhere in the 30s. His best result is being placed at 13th by Derryn Hinch’s Justice Party, but Hinch seems to like all the independents, so that doesn’t tell us much.

Victorian State Election 2018: Meet Bobby Singh

Themes: Unclear, but somewhat conservative.  Employment and cost of living seem to be areas of interest.

The Group Voting Ticket

As an ungrouped independent, Singh doesn’t get a group voting ticket.  But it’s interesting to see where he has been placed by others. His best billing comes from Derryn Hinch’s Justice Party, which puts him at 11th, after Chawla and Lee, the Aussie Battlers and the other ungrouped independents.  Chawla and Lee put Singh at 24, but beyond that, he’s not getting much love.  A lot of the parties in South Eastern Metropolitan seem to have decided that Independents are far too much like hard work, and have stuck all the ungrouped independents last or near last on the ballot.
